For temporary residences, we can provide documents issued by the following Over-Coding Rate (ICRR):
- Original work permit o
- Original research permit stating that you can “work” or “allow work”. You are free to add these terms.
Complementary identification document:
- If you are applying online, you must provide a clear, easy-to-read electronic copy of the document.
- You do not need to send this document if you request it by mail. However, you will need to complete and sign the SIN application form.
- If you apply directly, you must bring it with you.
- The document must include the legal first and last name and the date of birth.
The following are examples of acceptable supplemental documents:
- Passport (Canadian or foreign)
- State or territory identification card or driver’s license
- Other governments have issued identification cards.
Proof of Address Applicant’s first name (last and given name) Includes the applicant’s address
- If you are applying online, you must provide a clear, easy-to-read electronic copy of the document.
- If you are applying by mail, you do not need to provide this document. However, you must complete and sign the SIN application.
- If you are applying in person, you do not need to provide this document.
Examples of acceptable proof of address:
- A letter from the agency or agency certifying the applicant’s postal address. Institutions / organizations and applicants must sign a letter confirming their postal address.
- Work contract with domicile,
- A school, university or document issued by a university with an address,
- Bills (communications providers, cable providers, utility providers, etc.),
- Housing contract / lease,
Letters or documents from financial institutions (bank statements, credit card statements, mortgage contracts or statements, etc.)
If your name is different from your name and the real name appears on the main document, you must provide the original legal document explaining the discrepancy (marriage or divorce certificate, adoption document, etc.) that exists.
If the document is not in French or English, you must also provide the following information:
- Translation of the document into French or English
- An affidavit or proof signed by the translator.
If you are unable to apply online or by mail, you can also apply directly.
The original document provided will be returned. Your local Service Canada office can be found here.
For SIN applications by mail, the original must be mailed and Service Canada is not responsible for lost documents. You will receive your SIN and the original within 20 business days of receiving your request.
Your SIN must be kept secret
Anyone with your SIN can inadvertently use it to retrieve their personal information. Therefore, it is important to disclose the INS only when necessary. If your SIN is not associated with you as the rightful owner, someone else may be able to receive your government benefits, tax refunds, etc.
The most common uses of the SIN are employers, income tax information, and financial institutions that receive interest. Or government and revenue agencies.
The main document is the official document that proves your identity and identity in Canada.
Importance:
If you apply directly or by mail, you will need to submit the original basic documents. Copying is not allowed.
When applying online, the digital copy of the document must be clear and easy to read. If you have identifying information on both sides, you must provide both sides of the document.
If there is a small difference between the information provided in the online application and the information displayed in the primary source, that information will be entered into the social security record as displayed in the primary source.
