The optional elements that make up the evaluation are:
- Education (up to 25 points)
- It ranges from 5 points for high school completion to 25 points for master’s or doctoral completion.
- The system also provides proof of trade or credit for apprenticeship programs.
- Language skills (up to 24 points)
- Canada speaks English and French as an official language and can earn credit at one or both levels of proficiency.
- Separate scores are awarded for the ability to listen, speak, read and write each official language.
- EXP (up to 21 points)
- Overall score of more than 4 years of experience at an appropriate level.
- Age (up to 10 points)
- A perfect score for those between the ages of 21 and 49.
- Matching employment (up to 10 points)
If you receive a formal job from a Canadian employer, or if you apply in Canada and have a temporary work permit, you may be eligible to receive credit for working in Canada.
Adaptability (up to 10 points)
Skilled workers from Quebec.
Following an agreement between Quebec and the Government of Canada, Quebec has a selection process for immigrants in the category of skilled workers. If you plan to live in Quebec upon arrival in Canada, you will be assessed according to Quebec’s selection criteria rather than the assessment used by CIC. The Quebec immigration application process uses a similar point-based system, but with slightly different standards.
Like the federal system, Quebec uses a points-based system to screen potential immigrants. To receive the Quebec Certificate of Choice, an applicant must score at least 60 points in 10 selection criteria. By contrast, applicants with a spouse or relative spouse must earn at least 68 points.
- As a skilled worker, your choices for immigration to Quebec are:
- Points are awarded separately for both education and vocational training.
- Additional points are awarded for holding more than one specialization.

Jobs from Quebec employers will receive points and jobs outside of Montreal will receive even more points.

Linguistic knowledge (up to 22 points) French is the official language of Quebec. The Quebec selection criteria emphasize oral language skills over written language comprehension. You can use up to 16 points for verbal communication in French and an additional 6 points for verbal communication in English.
